8 June 2019 – Mylène Farmer – Paris La Défense Arena, Paris
This is the musical event of the year! Mylène Farmer is back on stage with an exceptional residence 9 dates in Paris La Défense Arena. For the occasion, I offer a return to France to discover the show with one of my best friends! When I landed in Paris on Saturday noon, I know absolutely nothing of the show. I wanted to keep intact surprise to the end, God knows it's been difficult 😅.
I agree with Florian and Lionel waiting for me in Paris, and we take the path of Nanterre, where the room is located. Before discovering the vastness of the place, there remains a step : pending. With all the crap we tell, the hours move quickly enough. AT 18 hours, the doors open. The flow of people is impressive, but do we need a few minutes to squeeze us to the strategic location we chose : the tip of the Advanced. The wait again. I have trouble realizing that 24 hours earlier, I was sitting at my desk in New York 😅. AT 20 h 40, the public begins to stir ...
For the moment, the decor is fully hidden. The only visible parts are the advanced stage and some video boards hanging above our heads. The screens suddenly blur. The introduction starts. We discern the faces of women in the middle of parasitized pictures. The music is deafening, we hear distant voices ... We do not really understand what is going on : the atmosphere is a little scary. This is both futuristic and disturbing. Above us, a huge luminous structure starts to flicker, the lights turn red, sirens screaming and pounding on the crowd strobes : everyone has his eyes toward the ceiling. On the screen, the video takes us through a stormy sky 🌩. The faces reappear superimposed, music becomes dizzying and shape above us begins to widen gradually.
The atmosphere is great immersive : we feel that something is afoot. The drums are increasingly supported, people shout and a light wheel, in which Mylène stands, appears over our heads. She gradually descends into a halo of light. A Gregorian choir accompanies the descent to the scene. The structure rotates on itself. Because of our position : we do not yet see Mylène. It raises a few meters away from us. She moves slowly towards the main stage, turning back to the audience. The screens show images of a very modern city plagued by a terrible storm. When she turns to face the crowd, the song « Interstellaires » started, and decor gets underway.
The scene is lined with a huge screen that projects the image of a futuristic city, freely inspired by science fiction movies like Ghost in the Shell or Blade Runner. All around, mobile elements are observed, gradually come to fit into each other in the manner of a Tetris. The structure thus reconstructed evokes the strange buildings that can be seen on the screen. As for Mylene, it bears an amazingly contemporary outfit : a black jumpsuit, cinched with gold belts, which is reminiscent of Michael Jackson costumes to the big time. She dropped the hair to shoulders : it is simply radiant. I think she has never been so beautiful on stage ❤.
As the song starts, Daylight is slowly retracts under the stage; which provoked the eve, many incidents. I guess no one expected to see disappear a decorative element like this. Today, the organization appears to have been reviewed and the process is going pretty well. We decided not to move, to enjoy the show as a whole. I was also blown the Advanced return later in the show and we would see Mylène closely. I am delighted that it is « Interstellaires » opening concert. This title was obvious! In parallel, the musicians make their entrance on each side of the stage on mobile structures.
A wave of chills seizes me when I hear the intro "No Logic". 30 years she has not performed on stage 😮 hope to have this year was more qu'infime. On the screen, one sees two huge mammoth tusks. At center stage down a translucent projection screen, on which draws the animal's face mixed with symbols reminiscent of Indian mythology, Ganesh. This is an opportunity to hear the first real re-orchestration of the evening, for once, is not to Yvan Cassar, but Olivier Schultheis, music director of The Voice and newcomer to the world Farmer.
Purists will cry foul probably, but that's exactly what I hoped for this concert series : dedusted arrangements, even if we lose our bearings. The guy was smart, because it has managed to renew classic while sliding it full of references to the original versions 👏. Right here, you can hear the gimmick « This is a blank formatted diskette » returning several times in the song, but also the sample of a remix that only fans are able to know. For me, it is a success 👍 Another reference to the original version has also crept into the video… If you have your eye, you will see the evil face of Mylène when the clip where she is about to skewer the toreador. A stroke of genius!
After that wonderful surprise, the rest of the gang entered the dimensions of Mylène! She is now surrounded 16 dancers, whose characteristic is that they are all dyed red! Moreover, we find Aziz Baki and Raphael Sergio already on Timeless one 2013. then starts « Rolling Stone », I put a lot of time to enjoy. This is one of the sequences that you can discover in video at the end of Article ⬇. This is the first choreography of the show and the title works pretty well live : the game is played, and the choir in words is resumed. Once again, outfits, the postures and the atmosphere reminds me of Michael Jackson. On the screens, a gigantic stone marked with mysterious symbols explodes.
My friends push me to say that I liked the Presta, but I'm already on the lookout to see what the next. In the moment, I do not hear the few sentences extracted from the clip " Provided they are soft " (« It’s a boy ! », « No, it’s a girl ! ») so I am unable to recognize 😅. We're back in the futuristic city and dancers perform choreography in staccato rhythm. Mylène, who removed the belts of her outfit, do not dance. She appears to have accepted its limitations and it is not worse. It outlines some still not on deck, history of. I found this a bit longer version : this is not the moment of the concert was my favorite although I appreciate the song.
Wordlessly she goes on « Stolen Car » virtual duet with Sting that appears on a screen above the stage. This is a piece that I love, including arrangements that give me the chorus always want to dance. It has not yet spoken voice, but it is generally okay. There are always a few falsehoods here and there, but nothing very unusual. This year, it is not accompanied by singers, but by his own voice, broadcast on prerecorded tapes. This is probably what earned him all these criticisms on playback! It is very comfortable and I am delighted to see follow on " Tears " which is my favorite song from the latest album! The staging is uncluttered, Mylène simply few whereabouts and go for his doe eyes musicians. The sequence ends and the interlude following leaves little room for doubt as to the next song.
Blue and red lights flashing, Police sirens screaming and a car that starts, it is « California » who is back. I love the original version, but I have a big problem with live arrangements that we glue it every time, and these are no exception to the rule 👎. There is a slight improvement, but the side acoustic / classical guitar really displeases me. Fortunately, there staging. Before the images of the city, Mylène ride with four dancers in strange movements. She is now wearing a short dress decorated small golden chains on the shoulder. The costume is a little bitch, but it lends itself well to the song. She looks happy to sing his shit, it even contains some passages of the original choreography with the dancers. Despite what I just said, This is frankly not a bad time 😅.
when start "Me collapses", a wave of surprise runs through the public. This is the fan favorite song since the release of "Blue Black", album, in 2010, and I would never have imagined that the resume 10 years later on stage for the first time. The painting is absolutely sublime. Mylène reuses images of a Short Film 2015 entitled Ghost Cell and directed by Antoine Delacharlery. The film is described as "A relief diving heart bowels of a Paris organic seen as a cell through a virtual microscope". The video fits perfectly with the mood of the song. In short everything is so perfect that I already forget « California » 😁.
The following table is a melting pot of many things, and is marred by the return of the advance, forcing spectators crammed front of the stage to deviate up to make way for the proscenium. Again I do not recognize the song, "Soul-Stram-Gram", which starts on a sample of Rammstein "Du Hast", before leaving on a trip technoïd. On the scene, there everywhere : lights choreography, through the re-orchestration, everything is very energetic. Abstract images in black and white are broadcast on screens. Two platforms totaled, and the pieces of Tetris are scattered around the company : it flashes a lot, it is visually very nice. There is even a small side gym tonic in choreography! Mylène leaves us on the remix of the title « Bucky Done Gun » de M.I.A and let the dancers take care of choreographed interlude : frankly it's a great time. Uphill walks sequence starts with my worst nightmare, " One day or another ", which closes the album "Interstellar" and I've never had the courage to listen to the end. This is in my opinion the mistake of casting this setlist. There were so many choices, even "retain water", the slow maudlin of "disobedience" would have been the case. I was even willing to retype me "Inseparable" to tell! The song does not train length, and Mylène gently Johan Dalgaard joined pianist, after advancing. It gives us the opportunity to see closely 😍. She is superb : she wears a white kimono sleeves that reveals smocks and is probably one of the best outfits of the evening.
She took the opportunity to thank the audience with these words : "You have made my life a delight, I wanted to thank you tonight ... ". This piano-voice sequence is superb to review and replayed, because the audience sing in chorus with her, it's a real nice time of fellowship. The musicians offer us an instrumental outro and allow us the opportunity to enjoy a piece of scenery that I don & rsquo; had not noticed. Above us hung a huge arch-like structure, traveled by the light beams, it gives him the circuit stage or spacecraft ..., I do not know very well !
Mylène takes the path of the main stage and she is joined by dancers. She was relieved of her kimono and now wears a sailor set 100 % Jean-Paul Gaultier who suits him perfectly. It is both modern and perfectly suited to the song that follows : "Without Counterfeiting". Unlike other old titles, I'm not thrilled with this version. But I let myself still take the game! The choreography seems to have been restructured to stick to show the standard : there are a few elements of the & rsquo; original in the middle of a whole new routine. What's so nice is that Mylène and dancers take over the song after advancing to the largest public happiness singing loudly. And she is beautiful, which does not spoil anything ❤
If there is a piece of the new album that I expected to see on stage, it is this one : I am obviously talking about "Buttocks Of Stories" and its famous pasta salt 🍝. Mylène removed his pants and is found in small combination sailor. She waddles with his dancers in front of a little confusing videos. Inspired by the German artist Extraweg : we see soft characters, which decompose, fall, merge, liquefy ... It is especially, but I think it fits perfectly with the crazy atmosphere of the song. I was afraid she dares a rap on the bridge, but she was smarter and had more or less robotic Version, which perfectly suited to this live version. This really is one of the most fun moments of the show! While the advance was withdrawn during the previous song, we began the last piece of the sequence, "Relationship". I really like! During the next interlude, the show takes another dimension. The atmosphere is colder now. A synth pad comes accompany the images of a snowy mountain before turning into a horrible breath of wind. Three gigantic pods out of stage and remain open a few meters above the public. The dancers are stoic pending the arrival of Mylène who is soon to take place on the center console to start "Disenchanted". She wears a black crow's tail, over a silver dress. It is sober, and slightly less than the original preceding outfits.
The nacelles rise a little higher and start to fly over the audience twirling. It must be amazing to see the bleachers! The pristine white ice is gradually transformed into flat areas of blood red. Should we see a green message ? I know that the re-orchestration cringe, but personally I am absolutely a fan of this version and I listen loop from the concert : «ChaoOos, ChaoOos, all is – all is – everything is is is is ChaoOos, ChaoOos 🎶 ». I gave in to my heart joy and I am eager to rediscover the live album coming! And this fucking chorea : is génialissime 🤩. This really is one of my favorite moments. Mylène us obviously take the choir song, avant de s'assoir sur l'un des blocs for the interpréter a de ses autres titres cultes : " Dream ".

A few seconds later, we discover Mylène seat (or should I say wallowing) on a throne at center stage for " I give you back your love ". If there is a song that I did not expect at all to hear, it is this one. It's pose the cover of "disobedience", even if the chair is a bit different : it is indeed topped with a wolf head, or dog ... because Mylene and her mutt it's a long story. his Swiss shepherd We stuck with all the sauces for years; it is in the clips, in the visual, This year there are even more photos of him in the program Mylène. It is not love, is obsession 😆 short. This impressive in staging, is that above the throne, screen broadcast images of an evil android. This sequence reminds me of the world of "Detroit : Become Human » (if gamers around the corner), a video game that really stood.
Mylène is then joined by her dancers transformed into superheroes and dressed in golden combi and latex capes. It is far from the light atmosphere "Without Counterfeiting" – it is even very different from the previous tables. I wonder what will follow and I am quite surprised to discover. One can even say that it's a shock 😱. The song intro starts with heavy percussion of "We Will Rock You", and videos projected images of a city destroyed or in the process of being. Mylène sings : "Vanity is ugly ... Treason is ugly ... Cowardice is ugly ... Délation is ugly ... FUCK THEM ALL !!! ». I do not know what may look like my face the moment I understand that she is doing, that is to say a mashup « C’est Dans L’air x Fuck Them All », but it should not be very nice to see 😂.
So ... there's a lot to say! Already, that someone thought it could be a good idea, it's disturbing ... But beyond that, his unspeakable desire to stick us « Fuck Them All » all the sauces from 2005, while this title does not work live, is really dumbfounding. It is bounded 😅 I thought at one point she was doing us a more titles medley. The worst thing is that she was super happy with his bullshit! Hail still taking risks and apocalyptic ambiance of the table.
This is the reminder. The end comes ... I wonder what it could be ! I know he has a song and she did not sing all the singles of "disobedience", including the title track of the album and the duet with LP "Do not forget". But strangely I can not imagine any of these securities in conclusion what I just saw. I am not wrong and the big surprise! The tictacs of " The clock " echo in the room 🕰. The visual atmosphere is completely identical to the opening of the first tour of Mylène Farmer there are exactly 30 years. It can not be coincidence. In an atmosphere of doom, Mylene appears wearing a red suit on a sewn impressive cape.

It was not an easy task to write this report. I wanted to be as specific as possible about the progress of the show, but also the emotions I have felt during the evening. For those who might wonder : Yes, this trip was worth it ❤. It cost me a good flu, but I do not regret having made the round trip specially for the concert. I have seldom been so moved : the last time I cried in front of Mylène Farmer, it was in 2006 when I was about to see for the first time. This time, I had tears in my eyes from beginning to end of the show, especially in the most joyful moments – Chouin on "Without Counterfeiting" yes, it's possible😂
the setlist, even if it is not perfect, is one of the most balanced of his career. It gives pride to the tubes, surprises, and for the first time perhaps, aux chansons que les réclament him fans from comme des années "Sans Logique" and "Falling in Love". I liked the reorchestrations, I found modern and efficient, while at the same time full of nostalgia and references to the original versions. For me, musically, is a of fresh air, I could not more Yvan Cassar and I am delighted that she has chosen to change creamery.
Regarding the staging, I did not expect this futuristic / apocalyptic urban world, but I found that the story it tells is full of poetry. I liked this thread and I enjoyed it declines throughout the show. While some would say that there is nothing to do, that these are just videos on a screen, certainly. But in my opinion, you missed something ...
Loved the costumes, more beautiful than Timeless, which left me feeling a botched. Right here, her figure perfectly highlighted by the outfits that are bright, well-trimmed and full of references also pretty. Jean-Paul Gautier did a great job : I believe it has never been much good in recent years 😍.
She was not especially talkative during this time - it must be said that this is not his specialty, but she was able to communicate his joy and pleasure to be on stage. She looks much fun on this tour and have set aside the voltage related to technique and choreography. Because indeed she dances much less than before, which ultimately does not interfere with the show.
I think that was likely to understand that the end is near, close the show on "clock" with as strong a staging can not be a coincidence.
