9 & 10 May 2019 – Harry Potter and the Cursed Child – Lyric Theatre, New York
As I do not want to reveal anything to readers who want to keep the surprise : j’ai décidé de publier deux versions de cet article ! The one you're reading (without spoilers), and another for the curious who want to learn a little more about the plot and staging. To discover, il vous suffit de cliquer ici : Harry Potter and the Cursed Child (with spoilers).
How about a change of register? If I decided to & rsquo; writing chronicle this play, it's because the show is currently one of the biggest hits of Broadway and I'm sure many of you have heard of. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child (or Harry Potter and the & rsquo; Child cursed in French), who also plays in London, Melbourne, San Francisco and Hamburg, tells the story of Albus Severus Potter, the son of Harry Potter and Ginny Weasley, who enters the famous school of witchcraft, Hogwarts (Hogwarts).
The piece is cut into two parts. You have of course the choice not to see one, but I seriously do not recommend this option. Certainly, at 185 $ la place en moyenne (and obviously part), this is clearly not an evening that we offer on a whim. That does not stop tickets to tear at exorbitant prices and dates fill up at the speed of lightning. It took us half a year to successfully book tickets ... So, the game it is worth it? 💁♂️
I had read the book in its release and I had no recollection. It must be said that the story is much less memorable than the previous volumes and moreover, it does not directly concern the iconic wizard with glasses 🙄. I think it is still necessary to have a good knowledge of the universe "Harry Potter" before embarking on the adventure. Certainly, The booklet summarizes the 7 first volumes, but there are many fan service and references, it would be a shame to miss.
The characters speak quickly, notamment dans la première demi-heure qui est un peu hystérique. But if you have the necessary background, everything will go like clockwork. The room is relatively long (les deux parties combinées durent 4 h 35) : I think it's nice to see her two days like I did. After the first evening, I would not have had the energy for another round.
Side stage, I'll go frankly : I had never seen that 🤩. So, at the beginning, we just feel that it is made of odds and ends, but the more we advance in show, then become grandiose delusions. It's a real magic show! I can tell you nothing, but some sequences are breath, particularly in the first part. There is an effect related to the particularly impressive time : I was speechless. The second part is slightly less surprising : there are nice ideas, but I expected a little more.
There are also many iconic characters and magical creatures in the show, vous ne serez pas déçu du voyage : the universe is very well exploited.
The actors are impressive. Whether in the interpretation, how they interact or execute magic : At no moment, we doubt their credibility. I think it is also one of the play forces. We must congratulate the main actors Nicholas Podany (Albus) Bubba Weiler et (Scorpius) obviously, and parents : James Snyder (Harry), Jenny Jules (Hermione) et Matt Mueller (Ron), for their accuracy. And, do not forget the supporting roles, like Lauren Nicole Cipoletti who plays a Myrtle (Myrtle Moarning) larger than life. It is for me one of the revelations of the evening and the sequence in which it appears is hilarious 😁.
Regarding the soundtrack ... If music is an integral part of the show, it plays a secondary role. Closer to the one she cinema. It is especially useful for transitions between scenes. There are also many choreographed sequences throughout the show.
During the 10 first minutes, one can easily say : " All that for this ". The higher you get, more show us gently plucks, but surely, with conjuring tricks, an acting concrete and absolutely breathless story 👍. I can assure you that you will come out of the theater and convinced undoubtedly amazed by what you just witnessed. I found the second part a little less interesting than the first and it is perhaps the only flaw I can do in the room. I was expecting an explosion of special effects and I found myself facing a series of sequences "emotion" sometimes a little long. Despite that, show still a must-see and I urge you to go if you're a fan of the world of Harry Potter.
A little anecdote to finish ... At the end of the representation, the theater offers badges #KeepTheSecrets. The slogan is printed on posters and tickets. Producers and J.K. Rowling indeed ask the audience who saw the play not to reveal major plot twists. I was careful not to do here 😁 But if your curiosity is not yet fully satisfied, you might want to read the version spoiler alert Article ou découvrir les chroniques que j’ai consacrées aux autres shows de Broadway en cliquant ici : #Broadway.
