⚠ This article contains many spoilers about the plot and staging. If you want to keep the surprise – I suggest you – I invite you to discover the version without spoilers here : Harry Potter and the Cursed Child ⚠.
How about a change of register? If I decided to & rsquo; writing chronicle this play, it's because the show is currently one of the biggest hits of Broadway and I'm sure many of you have heard of. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child (or Harry Potter and the & rsquo; Child cursed in French), who also plays in London, Melbourne, San Francisco and Hamburg, tells the story of Albus Severus Potter, the son of Harry Potter and Ginny Weasley, who enters the famous school of witchcraft, Hogwarts.
The piece is cut into two parts. You have of course the choice not to see one, but I seriously do not recommend this option. Certainly, at 185 $ instead average (and obviously part), this is clearly not an evening that we offer on a whim. That does not stop tickets to tear at exorbitant prices and dates fill up at the speed of lightning. It took us half a year to successfully book tickets ... So, the game it is worth it? 💁♂️
I had read the book in its release and I had no recollection. The story focuses on a son of Harry Potter, Albus, which is now old enough to make his entrance to Hogwarts. He joined Slytherin House (Slytherin) and became friends with Scorpius Malfoy, the son of Draco. The two boys are struggling to integrate and face enormous difficulties in school. The father-son relationships are deteriorating gradually and eventually run away with Albus Scorpius. The two teens have decided to go back in time to save Cedric Diggory's death. In parallel, Harry's scar begins to ache… Voldemort n & rsquo; is not far !
I think it is still necessary to have a good knowledge of the universe "Harry Potter" before embarking on the adventure. Certainly, The booklet summarizes the 7 first volumes, but there are many fan service and references, it would be a shame to miss. The characters speak quickly, especially in the first half hour is a bit hysterical. But if you already have the necessary background, everything will go like clockwork. The room is relatively long (both parts combined last 4 h 35) : I think it's nice to see her two days like I did. After the first evening, I would not have had the energy for another round.
Side stage, I'll go frankly : I had never seen that 🤩. So, at the beginning, we just feel that it is made of odds and ends, but the more we advance in the show, then become grandiose delusions. It's a real magic show ! There are special effects throughout the show and some sequences are breathtaking. I think of the 15 last minutes of the first part : between scuba sequence and agonizing arrival Dementors (Dementors), you can not be that stuck to your chair. La pièce est ponctuée d’illusions et de tours de passe-passe complètement loufoques : the input of the department via the telephone booth, transformation with polyjuice (Polyjuice Potionn), the labyrinth, etc. La deuxième partie est légèrement moins surprenante il y a de jolies idées, but I expected a little more. The final fight left me on my hunger 😕.
There are also many iconic characters and magical creatures in the show, you will not regret the trip : the universe is very well exploited. Personally, I did not like what they have humanized the Hat (Sorting Hat), but I was delighted to discover some magical creatures on stage and the Centaur (Centaur), Dementors (Dementors), etc.
The actors are impressive. Whether in the interpretation, how they interact or execute magic : At no moment, we doubt their credibility. I think it is also one of the play forces. We must congratulate the main actors Nicholas Podany (Albus) Bubba Weiler et (Scorpius) obviously, and parents James Snyder (Harry), Jenny Jules (Hermione) et Matt Mueller (Ron) for their accuracy. And, do not forget the supporting roles, like Lauren Nicole Cipoletti who plays a Myrtle (Myrtle Moarning) larger than life. It is for me one of the revelations of the evening and the sequence in which it appears is hilarious ❤.
Regarding the soundtrack ... If music is an integral part of the show, it plays a secondary role. Closer to the one she cinema. It is especially useful for transitions between scenes. There are also many choreographed sequences throughout the show.
During the 10 first minutes, one can easily say : " All that for this ". And the more time passes, more show us gently plucks, but surely, with conjuring tricks, an acting concrete and absolutely breathless story. I can assure you that you will come out of the theater and convinced undoubtedly amazed by what you just witnessed. I found the second part a little less interesting than the first and it is perhaps the only flaw I can do to show. I was expecting an explosion of special effects and I found myself facing a series of sequences "emotion" sometimes a little long. Despite that, show still a must-see and I urge you to go if you're a fan of the world of Harry Potter.
A little anecdote to finish ... At the end of the representation, the theater offers badges #KeepTheSecrets. The slogan is also also printed on posters and tickets. Producers and J.K. Rowling indeed ask the audience who saw the play not to reveal major plot twists. Thanks! I could not resist 😅 Now that you know all of the Harry Potter series, je vous invite découvrir les chroniques que j’ai consacrées aux autres shows de Broadway en cliquant ici : #Broadway.
