31 October 2018 – Christine and the Queens – Brooklyn Steel, Brooklyn
Back with a simply titled "Chris" album, Christine and the Queens was launched to conquer the world and currently plays in the biggest cities in Europe and the US 🌎. This is an opportunity for me to discover it for the first time on stage.
Our Halloween party begins in Brooklyn Steel, là où j’ai eu la chance de voir mon premier concert new-yorkais : Miguel. Les deux shows sont sold out depuis des mois : it is a great success considering that the room has a capacity of 1 800 people. On the scene, no apparent decor… I guess we will be surprised after the first part, Dounia, newcomer to the rap game US.
A synth pad announces the beginning of the show. Une troupe de danseurs débarque sur scène : there is 3 girls and 3 boys. Chris follows them closely and starts " As if " playing with them caid. Elle arbore un look garçonne qui rappelle l’univers de West Side Story : short cut, red shirt and black pants, nous voilà replongés dans le New York des années 1950. Their street battle gives rise to a particularly dynamic choreography during which Chris gives us some moves borrowed from the King of Pop. I am amazed by his energy 😮. Il n’y a toujours pas de décor en vue et les jeux de lumière sont réduits à leur plus simple appareil : it's a strange early evening.
She followed with « Girlfriend ». Musically, its just more interesting than on disk. I am reassured, because I have not been conquered by the album and I was just afraid it's really boring. She welcomes us, English course, and begins the public directly in the pocket by chaining a few good words about New York.
The concert continues with "The G", first title of the evening French. Alternately, dancers offer us a demo of their talents. Hip-hop side of chorea is really interesting. I was not expecting that at all. Place to « Make Some Sense » in just. Je commence à m’inquiéter un peu au sujet de la mise en scène : there is absolutely nothing on the set and lighting effects are terribly basic. On previous dates, a series of paintings on canvas adorned the & rsquo; background ... We, one is mode black background ⬛.
Chris continues with the English version « Science Fiction » : the arrangements are excellent and the choreography is great fun! There is a small side Mylène Farmer, I do not know how to explain it. The evening continues with "Paradise Lost" you can view the video at the end of the article. A semblance of staging appears on « iT » pendant laquelle on découvre la première toile peinte de la soirée : a menacing wave under a stormy sky. Vocally, one can not fault him, it is powerful and assuré👍.
One more time, There is a side in MJ choreography « Feel So Good », but quickly finds his universe « Titled », English version of "Christine". The piece, the recovery of the original chorea and especially the mood in the room make it one of the best moments of the show. To my surprise, « 5 Dollars » is just as popular with the public. The video of the service is available in the playlist at the bottom.
It offers us an exceptional vocal performance on « What’s‐Her‐Face » before dropping the shirt to get his duo with Booba, « Here ». L’une des plus belles séquences de la soirée est sans aucun doute « The Stranger ». By moving in slow motion so as to create real living pictures, Chris gives us a glimpse of what might have looked like the show if all elements were present. Moreover, the canvas with the threatening wave picks up at the end of the song to bring us back to our good old black background 😒.
Smoke appear everywhere on « Goya ! Soda ! ». Chris offers a languorous exchange with one of her dancers, whose jacket also let out a colorful cloud. The effect is surprising. There are now a lot of stage smoke and the troupe moves on « Damn (What Must A Woman Do) ». The title is really nice live. At the end, Chris and his dancers even offer us a piece of Huntington on "Nasty" by Janet Jackson. She then decides to resume "Night 17 At 52 " a cappella before proposing an excerpt from "Man In The Mirror" by Michael Jackson, still without musicians. follow « Doesn’t Matter » and « The Walker / The walker ". sand can be observed down to different corners of the stage. The effect is pretty cool, but I wish there to be a little more.
It's the end of the main set and after a few minutes of recall, Chris reappears in the middle of the room to "Saint Claude". She takes one last speech to tell us that we will finally be able to join our friends for Halloween, but before it, it has a special song to put us in the mood. It is "Disquiet". The title is perfect to close the evening ❤. She presents her team before leaving the room to the cheers of the spectators.
well, It was very nice! Musically, le live apporte quand même un vrai plus à ses chansons : the assembly is remarkably consistent. J’ai redécouvert quelques morceaux que je me passe en boucle depuis le show : « Science Fiction », « Damn (What Must A Woman Do)"Or" Disquiet ". What I also liked, is that it does not take seriously and suddenly, his character is not as annoying as for the promotion of the album. The guy next to me does not please the masses, but it has the merit of proposing something different.
For the staging, I must admit I expected more. Already, it is necessary that 5 chansons pour qu’il se passe un truc : otherwise it's black background and games limited ultras lights. Ensuite, there is the famous painting that appears and disappears too quickly… We had no more. A little smoke, few grains of sand… Clearly, under this form, the show was frankly not worth watching. After the stage, it moves a lot and chorea are wonderful. She dances all along and the troops who & rsquo; accompanies's really good. It compensates somewhat.
I am excited to see what it will propose to the AccorHotels Arena at year end, whether it will stay on this minimalist setting or scene out drastic measures… 🤔 N’hésitez pas à me donner vos impressions sur le concert ici ou sur les réseaux sociaux Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. See you soon for a new evening with French artists.
