16 June 2019 – Broadway Bares 2019 – Hammerstein Ballroom, New York
Today, I take you to discover one of the most unusual New York shows : Broadway Bares ! Every year since 1992, Broadway Association Cares / Equity Fights AIDS organized a burlesque evening to raise funds for the fight against AIDS. The show is presented by Broadway performers at the Hammerstein Ballroom for two exceptional performances.
I discovered by chance the show on YouTube a few months ago and I was looking forward to attend. I did not want to miss this opportunity to rinse my eye 😏 The result was he up to my expectations? Find out by taking this flight with me; you are ready?! So, scramble ✈
Habitually, This is the paragraph in which I summarize the history of the show. The context is different here, we will keep it simple! It follows a group of tourists who embarks on a journey around the world aboard a rather special flight. We alternate between sequences on the plane and more sophisticated paintings with the theme country or a particular culture : Spain, France, Brazil or Japan 🎎. This is also the sequence my favorite. Special mention for the Parisian number, with the participation of Billy Porter surprise you may have seen in the series "Pose". Note that this is Todrick Hall, who opened the evening by playing stewards in an introductory video.
There are lots of humor throughout the show, and many references to the LGBT news, as the anniversary of Stonewall, which benefited from a moving table at the end of the representation. The show sends a message of tolerance and mutual assistance would be important to disseminate as widely as possible. Regarding music, Madonna on a entendu, Ellie Goulding, David Guetta, Muna but I really love. The soundtrack of the show is very eclectic.
I was impressed by the staging 🤩. We must remember that this is a show for which there are only two performances and the work of the creative team is impressive. Some numbers stand out : including those themed Spain, Brasil, Paris and Burning Man. You will see if you take a look at the video at the end of this article, these are the most important. The show is consistent, light and dynamic, all is not equal, but everything is quality.
You will probably laugh at me if I say that the costumes are successful ... Yes, for a striptease party, it's a bit paradoxical 😅. But it is on Broadway then everything is colored and shimmering ! Personally, I found them very interesting and imaginative outfits.
Talk dancers now. They are more 150 on stage and come from all Broadway musicals (Aladdin, Beetlejuice, The Cher Show, Frozen and many others). You will not be disappointed, it has something for everyone! All Sizes, all sexes, All colors are represented !
It is difficult to say if so and so is better, because they are very numerous on stage. What I can tell you is that the performance is successful : US precision found where everything is timated the nearest second. As for striptease in themselves : they are not in subtlety… The show is pop and dynamic : viewers are clearly there to get an eyeful and the cast gives us what we came for!
The evening lived up to my expectations. The show lasted an hour, This relatively short for ticket prices. This is a charity gala, so I'm not surprised. The evening also reported more 2 millions of dollars, and therefore to the record battre de l'année dernière 👏.
The staging is very energetic, very visual : I found the various tables, and quite successful overall. The soundtrack makes you want to dance and if I had not had 38 fever (thank you Mylène) I probably would have enjoyed a little more ambience. The performances are all very successful event, there is nothing vulgar – everything is done to it is accessible to wider audience. I think I'll be waiting for you next year, especially as it will be the 30e edition. I imagine there will be full of surprises!
It ends with a video that will help you discover a few excerpts of the show, and that will give you maybe want to take a walk in New York in June 2020 to attend the evening! appointment on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to discover the other shows I've had the chance to attend New York !
